Wooden Training Blades coming soon

We have a new line of wooden training blades being developed right now.  Eventually, all of our live blades will have a training version in wood.

Ginunting made of mulawin and bahi.
We have experimented with different woods, including mabolo, mulawin, bahi and kamagong. Each has it's pros and cons.  It is likely we will have both a kamagong and bahi version of each.

The final designs are still being reworked to find a balance between durable, realistic and ergonomic.  They will likely be strong enough for striking in the air, but not against each other.  It seems the more detail and realism there is in the carving the more fragile the pieces are.  Our hardwood sticks, plastic sticks and aluminum training blades should all in some way satisfy the need to hit a heavy bag or tires, so perhaps these are better for demonstrations and lighter duty training.
Two tenegre designs.
The natural wood is beautiful, but has its strength limitations.  What are your opinions?  Leave a comment and let us know what you would like to see in a wooden training blade.  We hope to release the new designs late fall.

They look great! In my opinion, I would rather have something less visually accurate, but feels right and can take a bit of contact. In my experience, like you said, the more little details the more likely they are to break. If you could make the general feel of the handle and weight/balance correct, but beef up the details and blade so they could take a hit I would be happy.

Thanks for the comments Patrick! It's good to know what is more important.
